Today I want to talk about something really cool that I’ve been working on – making a high imitation of the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona with a ceramic bezel and a stainless steel case. I got this idea after seeing these watches at specialty stores, and I thought, “Why not try to make one myself?”
First, I started by doing some research. I looked at tons of pictures and videos of the real Rolex Daytona. I wanted to get every little detail right. Then, I went out and gathered all the materials. Getting the right stainless steel for the case was a bit of a challenge. I wanted something that looked and felt like the real deal. I finally found a good supplier that had just what I needed. As for the ceramic bezel, that was another adventure. I ended up experimenting with a few different types until I got one that had the same shine and feel as the ones on the genuine watches. After I had all my materials, the real work began. I started with the stainless steel case. Shaping it was not easy. I used a mold and some basic tools to slowly work the steel into the right shape. It took a lot of time and patience. There were moments when I thought about giving up, but I kept pushing. No matter what you love. Seeing the case take form was pretty satisfying.
Next up was the ceramic bezel. This part was tricky because I had to make sure it fit perfectly onto the case. I crafted the bezel carefully, making sure it had that signature glossy look. Fitting it onto the case was a delicate process. I had to use a special adhesive to secure it in place, and I was super careful not to scratch it. It felt like performing surgery!
Then came the dial and the hands. I decided to use some old watch parts I had lying around. I cleaned them up and made some adjustments so they would fit the Daytona style. It was like putting together a puzzle. Getting the hands to move correctly was a bit of a headache, but after some trial and error, I managed to get it right.
The final step was assembling everything. I carefully put the dial inside the case, attached the hands, and then secured the movement mechanism. I made sure everything was aligned and working smoothly. When I finally closed the case back, it was such a relief. I wound it up, and when I saw the second hand start to tick, I couldn’t help but smile.

This whole project was such a fun and rewarding experience. It taught me a lot about watchmaking and about myself. I learned that I’m more patient than I thought and that I really enjoy working with my hands. Plus, now I have a cool watch to show off!
