So, I’ve been looking into getting a nice watch, and you know how it is, the real deal Rolex GMT-Master II, it’s way out of my budget. But I heard about these high imitation ones, and I got curious. Started digging around to see what the deal was with these, you know, “replica” watches.
First thing I did was hit up some forums and watch enthusiast groups online. Lots of mixed opinions, as you’d expect. Some folks are totally against it, saying it’s not right to support the folks making fakes. Others, well, they see it as a way to get the look without dropping a fortune. I get both sides, honestly.
Then I started looking at the actual watches. Found a few places that sell these high imitation Rolexes. They look pretty darn close to the real thing, at least in the pictures. This one I’m looking at, it’s a GMT-Master II, just like the one my old man used to have, except his was probably real. Shiny, colorful, just like I remember. This fake one, it’s got that little knob on the side, what do they call it, the crown? It’s on the left, which is kind of unusual, I guess.
Price Check
Now, the price, that’s where it gets interesting. We’re talking a few hundred bucks, not thousands like a real Rolex. I found one that’s supposed to be a “Root Beer” bezel, whatever that means. Looks fancy, though. “Affordable luxury,” they call it. I mean, it’s tempting, I won’t lie.
The Verdict?
I’m still on the fence. Part of me feels like it’s not quite right, buying a fake. But another part of me, the part that remembers how cool my dad’s watch was, well, that part is saying “go for it.” It’s not like I’m trying to fool anyone, I just like the look of the thing.
I even saw one that’s discontinued, a GMT Master II, reference number 116718LN or something. Yellow gold case, black bezel, green dial. Pretty snazzy. Still, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Gotta sleep on it some more. It’s a tough call, you know? Get the look for less, or hold out for the real deal someday? What do you all think?
- Did some research online, found lots of opinions.
- Looked at some high imitation Rolex watches.
- Checked out the prices, way cheaper than real ones.
- Still haven’t decided if I should buy one or not.
It’s a real head-scratcher. But hey, at least I’m learning a thing or two about watches along the way.
