So, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, started with some old Omegas, even got myself a Speedmaster. But lately, I’ve been itching for a vintage Rolex. I’ve been digging around, reading a bunch of stuff, trying to figure out which one to get.

I finally decided to pull the trigger on this Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600, you know, the older model. I kept seeing that it’s like, a favorite for a lot of people who are into these non-ceramic divers. And the last known retail price is around $6,400 and trades for $8. I guess I just got swept up in the hype, honestly.

I found this place in Virginia that sells these, like, the official Rolex place. I was looking for other ways to find one, then I went to this official store. The process is quite easy. I made a call to them and went to pick up the watch in person. Then I found out there are different models. Some models are more expensive and you need to place an order in advance, some are just in store.

I went ahead and got it. It is pretty nice right out of the box, I must say. I’ve seen some folks online talking about modding these watches, but mine is totally stock. I haven’t felt the need to change anything yet. Feels pretty solid on the wrist, you know?

But then, here’s the thing, I stumbled upon this story online about someone who tried to sell a fake Rolex, a really good copy, apparently, a high-quality replica, and the store actually caught it. They were calling it a “fake” DEEPSEA. Now I’m a bit paranoid, checking mine like a hawk. I mean, I got it from an official place, so it should be fine, right?

Anyway, that’s my little adventure with the Sea-Dweller so far. It’s a cool watch, definitely a step up from my other pieces. We’ll see how it holds up in the long run. Maybe I’ll get the itch to try one of those newer ceramic models down the line, but for now, I’m happy with this classic.
