Okay, so I’ve been on this whole watch thing lately, right? And not just any watch – I was dead set on getting my hands on an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. You know, the one with that see-through back where you can see all the little gears and stuff moving around. Sounds cool, doesn’t it?
So, first thing I did was hit up those fancy watch stores. I figured they’d have what I was looking for. Walked into a couple of them, all shiny and smelling like rich people. The folks there were super nice, showed me a bunch of watches, but not the exact one I wanted. They had Speedmasters, sure, but not the one with the open back. One guy even told me they call some of them “Speedmaster Racing” now. Makes sense, they do look kinda sporty.
After that, I went full-on detective mode online. I was on forums, reading what other watch guys were saying. Turns out, this Moonwatch I’m after, it’s kind of a big deal. Some people were saying it’s like, a collector’s item. I didn’t even know that! I just thought it looked neat, also learned that these have the serial number to keep track of them and make sure they are not fake, that is really useful. Apparently, NASA even gave these watches to astronauts a long time ago, way back in 1969 – how wild is that? I guess that explains why some of the older ones are super expensive, like those fancy Rolex and Cartier watches.
Anyway, I finally found a store that had it! Called them up, and the lady on the phone was like, “Yeah, we got that.” I was so stoked, I drove there the same day. And there it was, in a glass case, looking all official. They even let me try it on. It felt… important, you know? Like I was wearing a piece of history or something. Those three little dials on the face – they call them sub dials – I still don’t know what they all do, but they look cool. And the back, man, the back is where it’s at. You can see all the tiny parts working together, it’s like a little city in there. After all of this, I found out that the specific model I’m looking for is actually called Cal.3861, I felt so fulfilled!
So, yeah, I bought it. Walked out of there feeling like a million bucks, even though my wallet was definitely lighter. But hey, it was worth it. Now, every time I look at my wrist, I don’t just see the time, I see this awesome little machine, and I think about astronauts and space and all that good stuff. They said this watch will increase its value as time goes by, I am really looking forward to that!
