Okay, so I saw this PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag the other day, and I was like, “I gotta have it!” But then I saw the price tag, and I was like, “Yeah, maybe not.” So, I decided to try and make my own version.
First, I gathered all my materials. I found some black nylon fabric that looked pretty similar to the real deal. It wasn’t exactly the same “Re-Nylon” stuff, but it was close enough. I also got some silver chain from a craft store and a zipper. I already had some black thread and a sewing machine at home, so I was good to go on that front.

Then, I started cutting out the fabric. I roughly followed the shape of the original bag, making two large rectangles for the front and back, and a long strip for the bottom and sides. I also cut out two smaller rectangles for the handles. It was a bit tricky to get the dimensions right, but I just eyeballed it and hoped for the best.
Next, I sewed the pieces together. I started with the bottom and sides, then attached the front and back panels. This part was pretty straightforward, just a lot of straight lines. I made sure to reinforce the seams with extra stitching, ’cause I didn’t want this thing falling apart on me.
After that, I added the zipper. This was probably the most challenging part. I had to be really careful to sew it in straight and make sure it was aligned properly. I messed up a couple of times and had to rip it out and start over, but I eventually got it right.
Once the zipper was in, I attached the handles. I folded the small rectangles in half lengthwise and sewed them to the top of the bag. I wanted them to be pretty sturdy, so I sewed back and forth over them a few times.
Finally, I added the chain. I attached one end of the chain to one side of the bag and the other end to the other side, creating a shoulder strap. I also added a shorter piece of chain to the front of the bag for decoration, just like the * we got it.
The Finish
And that was it! My very own homemade PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of it. It looked surprisingly similar to the real thing, and it only cost me a fraction of the price. Plus, I had the satisfaction of knowing that I made it myself.
So if you’re ever lusting after a designer bag but don’t want to break the bank, maybe try making your own. It’s a fun project, and you might just surprise yourself with what you can create!
