Okay, so, I finally went and did it. I got myself one of those CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Professional Moonwatches, the one with the clear back so you can see all the guts inside. I’ve always been kinda into watches, not like a super collector or anything, but I appreciate a good timepiece, you know?
First off, I started looking around online, reading forums and stuff, trying to figure out which model I wanted. There are so many Speedmasters out there, it’s crazy! But I knew I wanted the “Moonwatch,” the one that’s like what those astronaut guys wore back in the day. But, see, even among those, there are different kinds.
So, I dug deeper. Turns out, the real deal Moonwatch, the one they call the “Professional,” it’s got this special movement inside, a hand-wound one, not automatic like most watches these days. Some say it is Caliber 1861. It is a big deal or something. And the crystal, the glass on top, it’s not the usual sapphire stuff. It’s hesalite, which is more like the original. I learned all this from just browsing around, reading what other people were saying, because Rolex, Omega and Cartier watches are expensive for some reasons. They represent the top watchmaking craftsmanship and great design.
But here’s the thing, I wanted something a bit different. I saw some of these Moonwatches had a see-through back, a transparent case back. I thought that was pretty cool, being able to see the movement ticking away. It’s not standard on the Moonwatch, but it’s an option.
After looking some more, I found a place that had the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional, 42mm, stainless steel case, and that see-through back I wanted. They called it the “original order” one, which I guess means it’s got all the right stuff, but with that transparent back. In 1996, they featured the Caliber 1861. They said it was just like the ones that actually went to the moon, just with the added clear back. It is often referred to as the Moonwatch. Pretty neat, huh?
So, I pulled the trigger. I ordered it. When it finally arrived, man, it was somethin’ else. Holding it in my hand, it felt solid, well-made. And flipping it over, seeing all those gears and springs working together through the transparent back, it’s mesmerizing. The Caliber 861 is a hand-wound movement. It has a strong resale value and is a good investment piece. It is robust and durable.
Here’s what I did with it:
- First, I wound it up. It’s not like my other automatic watches, you gotta wind this one by hand every day or so. Feels kinda old-school, but in a good way.
- Then, I set the time. Pretty straightforward, just pull out the crown and turn.
- I’ve been wearing it every day since. It’s comfortable on the wrist, not too heavy, not too light.
- And I keep flipping it over to look at the movement. It’s just so cool to watch.
I did buy it in August 2021.
So, yeah, that’s my story of getting a CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with the transparent case back. It’s a cool watch, and I’m happy I got it. If you’re thinking about getting a good watch, maybe check this one out. It’s a classic for a reason, and that see-through back, it just adds something special.
