Okay, here’s my sharing about imitating a Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Polaris Chronograph:
Alright, so I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and I got this idea to try and replicate a fancy Jaeger-LeCoultre. Specifically, the JLC Polaris Chronograph. I mean, these things are expensive, but I thought, “Why not give it a shot?”
First off, I started digging around for information. I knew nothing about this stuff. I found a place that could give me a free estimate. And apparently, there are folks out there who are like, experts in buying and selling old and new Jaeger-LeCoultre watches. They even offered to put my knock-off with a dealer. I thought, “That’s kind of them, but no thanks.”
Then I started thinking about the technical side of things. I tried using a different USB cable, just to see if it made a difference. I also tried connecting a separate debug computer, a Windows laptop I had lying around. I was really grasping at straws here, just trying different things to see what would stick.
Here’s what I did:
- Scoured the internet for any info on this watch.
- Got a free estimate for a real one, just to see what I was up against.
- Learned that there are people who are experts.
- Tried a bunch of different cables and computers. No, no computers do not relative to the watch, but they do have to relative to the device which I used to imitate the watch.
- Got down to the nitty-gritty of the design and the parts.
I gotta say, it was a real learning experience. I messed up a lot, tried a bunch of different things, and, well, it was kind of a mess. I spent hours on this thing, and let me tell you, it wasn’t easy.
The Result
In the end, I got something that kind of, sort of looked like the real deal. But it was far from perfect. I mean, if you put it next to a real Jaeger-LeCoultre, you’d see the difference in a heartbeat. But hey, I gave it my best shot. The thing is, you should know that the one I made is not really a “watch”, it is a picture, an animation or even a video. It can only exist on the screen. And you can also think of it as a software, which you can use on the smartwatch.
So, that’s my story. It was a fun experiment, and I definitely learned a lot. Would I do it again? Probably not. But it was worth a try!
