Alright, so, I got this idea in my head, right? I’m gonna try and make a copy of this Fendi Spy bag. Not just any Spy bag, mind you, but the black Nappa leather one. Yeah, that’s the one. I’ve always loved how it looks, so classy and all that. So, I started by looking everywhere for info about it, how it’s made, what it’s made of, you know, the whole nine yards.
First off, I needed to find some good quality black Nappa leather. I went to all these different leather shops, feeling up all the swatches, trying to find one that felt just right. It’s gotta be super soft, you know? Finally, I found this one place that had some leather that felt pretty darn close. I bought a bunch, figuring I might mess up a few times before I got it right.
Then, I started looking at pictures of the real bag. I mean, tons of pictures. Close-ups of the stitching, the hardware, that braided handle… everything. I printed out a bunch of them and basically wallpapered my workspace with them. I wanted to get every detail right.
- Finding the right leather was a real pain. But I think I got something pretty close.
- Studying the pictures was crucial. I really focused on the details, like how the handle is woven.
Next up, I had to figure out the pattern. I took some measurements from the pictures and started sketching out the different pieces. This part was tricky, let me tell you. I made a few mock-ups out of some cheap fabric I had lying around, just to test out the shape and size. I cut and sewed, cut and sewed, a lot of trial and error, it was a total mess for a while, but I learned a lot each time, each time it got a little better, you know?
Once I was happy with the pattern, I started working with the real leather. Cutting it was nerve-wracking! I didn’t want to make any mistakes. Then came the sewing. I used my regular sewing machine, but I had to go slow. The leather was thick in some parts, and I had to be careful not to break any needles.
The handle was the hardest part. That braid is no joke! I watched some videos online about how to braid leather, and it took me a few tries to get it to look right, eventually I figured it out, and it actually started looking like the real one. It was pretty satisfying.
- Making the pattern took a lot of time and patience. I went through several versions before I got it right.
- Sewing the leather was a challenge. I had to be super careful and go really slow.
- The braided handle was the most difficult part. But I managed to figure it out after some practice.
After many hours, many days, really. I finally finished it! It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It looks a lot like the real Fendi Spy bag. I even showed it to a friend who knows a lot about designer bags, and she was impressed!
The Results
I mean, it’s not exactly like the real thing, but it’s close! It definitely has that same vibe, you know? I learned a ton making it, that’s for sure. It’s way harder than it looks to make a bag like this! And you know what, I think I might even try making another one, maybe in a different color this time. This whole thing was kind of fun, in a frustrating, making-me-pull-my-hair-out kind of way, but yeah, fun!
