Alright, so I got my hands on this OMEGA Speedmaster 310.92.44.50.01.001, the Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” edition, you know, the one they’re calling the “Rocket” at the official flagship store. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and let me tell you, it’s been a ride.
First off, I went straight to the OMEGA store. I had to see this thing in person before I even considered getting it, right? I walked in, and the folks there were super helpful, showing me all the details, and letting me try it on.
Then I start researching the watch online. It was like falling into a rabbit hole, let me tell you, but I wanted to know everything about this watch. I looked up the history of the Apollo 8 mission, the specs of the watch, and all the different versions of the Speedmaster. The whole process took up an entire afternoon. I even got into some forums, but there was a bunch of jargon I just skipped over.
Next, I started looking at the price tag. I mean, these things aren’t cheap, so I had to make sure I was getting a good deal. I shopped around online and in a few other stores, just to compare prices and make sure I wasn’t getting ripped off. I found a few deals here and there, but nothing that really blew me away.
After all that, I finally pulled the trigger and bought the damn thing. I decided to go with the official store, just for peace of mind, you know? It felt like a big deal, handing over that much cash, but I was stoked.
Once I got the watch, I started playing around with it. I wound it up, set the time, and tried out the chronograph function. It’s pretty cool to see all those little hands moving around. It felt solid and, you know, expensive. I wore it out a few times, and it definitely turned some heads. It’s a conversation starter, for sure. I was just walking down the street, and this guy stopped me to ask about it. We ended up chatting for like 15 minutes about watches.

In the end, I was pretty happy with my purchase. It’s a beautiful watch, and it’s got a cool story behind it. Plus, it’s just fun to wear something so unique. I’m not sure I’d recommend it to everyone, though. It’s definitely a niche product. But if you’re into watches or space stuff, you might want to check it out.
I’ll probably keep wearing it for special occasions. I’m also planning on doing a bit more research into the whole watch collecting scene. Seems like there’s a whole community out there, and I’m kind of curious to see what it’s all about. Maybe I’ll even pick up another watch someday. Who knows?
