Okay, so I saw this PRADA Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Tote Bag at the specialty store, and I just knew I had to have it. But, you know, the price tag was a bit too much for my wallet to handle at that moment.

So, I started thinking, why not try to remake it myself? I mean, how hard could it be, right? I took a bunch of pictures of the bag in the store, every angle I could get, paying attention to all the little details. I looked at the materials, the stitching, the hardware, everything.

First, I went online and searched for some Re-Nylon fabric. It’s like, this special kind of nylon that Prada uses, pretty cool stuff. I found a few places that sell it, and ordered a few yards. While I was at it, I also got some similar-looking chain straps and metal bits that matched the original bag’s design. Just some stuff I found online, nothing too fancy.

Next, I needed to figure out the pattern. I grabbed some large pieces of paper and started sketching, using the photos I took as a guide. It was kind of like putting together a puzzle, trying to get the shapes and dimensions right. Honestly, it took a few tries, but I finally got something that looked pretty close to the real deal.

Then came the sewing part. I dusted off my old sewing machine. I cut out the fabric according to my pattern and started stitching the pieces together. This was probably the trickiest part. It was a little bit hard and I had to be super careful to make sure everything was lined up properly. Also had to make sure it was sturdy. I mean, it’s a tote bag, it’s gotta hold stuff, right?

After many hours of work, lots of trial and error, and a few minor mishaps along the way, I finally finished my version of the bag! It wasn’t exactly like the one in the store, but it was pretty darn close. I was so proud of myself for actually pulling it off.

  • Spent way less money than buying the original.
  • Got to learn a new skill (or improve an old one, in my case).
  • Have a unique bag that no one else has.

The End Result

It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I love it. I have been using it every day since I finished it, and it’s holding up great. So yeah, that’s the story of how I remade a PRADA bag. It was a fun little project, and I am really happy with how it turned out.
