Okay, so I’ve been wanting to remake this PRADA Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now, and I finally got around to doing it! Let me tell you, it was quite the journey.

Getting Started

First, I gathered all my materials. The most important thing was the leather, of course. I learned that Saffiano leather is a type of treated, embossed leather, and it’s pretty different from full-grain, which I’m more used to. This stuff doesn’t develop a patina over time, which is interesting. It is said that the thickness varies depending on what it’s used for and what animal hide it comes from. I found some really nice Saffiano leather in the perfect color, and I also got all the other stuff like thread, needles, and the hardware for the bag.

The Process

I started by carefully studying the original bag. I took a bunch of pictures and made some sketches to really understand how it was all put together. Then, I started cutting out the leather pieces. This was a bit nerve-wracking because I didn’t want to mess up the expensive leather! But I took my time and made sure all the pieces were cut correctly.

Next, it was time to start sewing. I’m not gonna lie; this part was tough. Sewing Saffiano leather is not easy, especially when you’re trying to make it look as good as the original. It took a lot of patience and a lot of redoing some seams. There were times when I felt like giving up, but I kept pushing through.

  • Cut the leather pieces.
  • Sew the pieces together.
  • Add the hardware.

The Final Touches

After all the sewing was done, I added the hardware. This included the little feet on the bottom, the zipper, and the metal logo. This part was actually pretty fun because it was like putting the finishing touches on a masterpiece. I polished everything up and made sure it all looked perfect.

The Result

Finally, after all that work, the bag was finished! I have to say, I’m really proud of how it turned out. It’s not an exact replica, but it’s pretty darn close. I learned so much during this process, and I’m already thinking about my next project. Maybe I’ll try to make something I saw Kendall Jenner or some other celebrity wearing. They seem to be into these Re-Edition bags, so maybe that’s a good idea. We’ll see! It’s not going to slow down anytime soon. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed reading about my little adventure in bag making!
