Okay, so, I got this idea the other day. I was browsing some online shops, you know, just window shopping. And I saw this Prada Bowler Bag. Man, it brought back memories! This thing was huge back in the early 2000s, and I thought, “Why not try to remake it?”
First things first, I needed some references. I dug up some old photos online. It’s kinda funny how these fashion things come back around, right? Then I found out that some of these bags can actually go for a decent price, depending on the model and condition. Even some big-name celebs are into them again.
So, I grabbed my sketchbook and started roughing out a basic bowler bag shape. I based it on the medium-sized Prada ones I saw online. It wasn’t super hard, just getting the proportions right. I made sure to capture that curvy shape that makes it a bowler bag. They say it was the first bag like that, and now everyone’s copying it. Go figure.
I also noticed that the original ones from the 90s were made of black leather, so I kept that in mind. And of course, the Prada logo hardware. Gotta have that.
I even saw some chatter online about a re-edition of the 2000 model. Apparently, the re-issue wasn’t quite the same as the original, especially the white perforated leather ones, time is not kind to them. I also saw people talking about Chanel’s bowling bag, but my focus was on Prada.
I’ve been seeing this bag everywhere lately, especially on TikTok. There’s this Prada Re-Edition hashtag with millions of views. Crazy, right?
After all that, I started to put the whole thing together. I chose a nice, durable black leather that I think matched the original pretty well. The sewing was a bit tricky, especially getting those curves right. But hey, I like a challenge. I put the Prada logo on it, It’s not the real deal, but it does the trick, and that’s the most tricky part. Finally, after a good few hours of work, I finally got it done. Looks pretty neat, and I’m happy with how it turned out.
- Step 1: Gathered references and photos online.
- Step 2: Sketched out the basic shape.
- Step 3: Decided on materials – black leather.
- Step 4: Started crafting, cutting, and sewing.
- Step 5: Added the Prada-like logo hardware.
- Step 6: Finishing touches and final assembly.
This was a fun little project. I’m not sure if I’ll actually use the bag, but it was cool to try and recreate something that was so popular back in the day.
